Anti-Dionysus and post-dismantling theater

Der Vortrag „Anti-Dionysus und Post-Dismantling Theater“ diskutiert die Schnittstelle von Kunst, Politik und sozialen Dynamiken im zeitgenössischen brasilianischen Theater sowie deren Beziehung zu europäischen Traditionen von Theaterpraxis und Forschung. Der Vortrag hebt hervor, wie das „Gruppentheater“ Brasiliens als wesentlicher Raum für die Untersuchung der Verbindungen zwischen Proben, Forschung und sozialen Implikationen entstanden ist. Darüberhinaus diskutiert der Vortrag, inwiefern importierte europäische Begriffe wie „performatives Theater“ oder „postdramatisch“ in Brasilien an beschreibender und analytischer Kraft verloren haben.

Dr. Phil. José Fernando Peixoto de Azevedo ist Regisseur und Drehbuchautor, sowie Professor an der Schule für Dramatische Kunst und am Postgraduiertenprogramm für Darstellende Kunst an der Universität von São Paulo (Teatro da Universidade de São Paulo). Zu den Veröffentlichungen zählen das Buch Eu, um Crioulo (2018), sowie Essays in mehreren Fachzeitschriften, u.a., “Letter to Lepecki – post-cannibalization and fugigraphies of the future” (2023) in Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory. José Fernando Peixoto de Azevedo koordiniert die Buchsammlung Encruzilhada (Cobogó Verlag), in der er Bücher von Autor:innen der Gegenwart wie Denise Ferreira da Silva, Jota Mombaça u.a. veröffentlicht hat.

Anti-Dionysus and post-dismantling theater

The lecture “Anti-Dionysus and Post-Dismantling Theater,” discusses the intersection of art, politics, and social dynamics in contemporary Brazilian theater and its relation to European traditions of theatre making and research. In his lecture he will highlight how Brazil’s “group theater” has emerged as a vital space for investigating the connections between rehearsal, research, and social implications. Furthermore the lecture discusses, how imported European terms like “performative theater,” or “post-dramatic” lost descriptive and analytical strength in Brazil.

Dr. Phil. José Fernando Peixoto de Azevedo is a theatredirector and playwriter, as well as a professor at the School of Dramatic Arts and the Postgraduate Program in Performing Arts at the University of São Paulo (Teatro da Universidade de São Paulo ). Publications are the monograph Eu, um Crioulo (2018), as well as essays in several journals, i.e. “Letter to Lepecki – post-cannibalization and fugigraphies of the future” (2023) in Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory. José Fernando Peixoto de Azevedo coordinates the book collection Encruzilhada (Cobogó Publishing), in which he has published books by contemporary authors such as Denise Ferreira da Silva, Jota Mombaça and others.
