Christine Fischer is adjunct Professor for music theatre 2022-2023. After studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (musicology, Italian studies, art history) and University of California Los Angeles (musicology, ethnomusicology), her dissertation at University of Bern dealt with Maria Antonia Walpurgis of Bavaria (1724-1780) as an opera composer. Having collaborated on the editing of the Verdi Handbuch (Metzler/Bärenreiter 2001), she subsequently was appointed grant professor of the Swiss National Science Foundation, leading an interdisciplinary research project (theatre studies, history of art) on the performance practice of early Italian opera at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, including numerous performance projects and collaborating with Theater Basel and Semper Oper Dresden. Her current research interests are grouped around music and visuality/performativity, gender and diversity in an ongoing project as Lise Meitner fellow at University of Vienna.
